Trackback added

If I had known how much work using trackback would be... I just hope I pinged the right sites. [sigh] And all because I got fed up with seeing women--me!--insulted, especially by people whose blogs I had otherwise enjoyed reading.

One job down, one to go

Here's a video that's trying to get single women to vote. Kind of interesting. Young single women are one of the groups that vote overwhelmingly for democrats, yet they're also one of the groups that often get ignored during campaigns, they vote less often than married women do, and they're disporportionatley affected by economic problems.

News brief: A family in Michigan was kicked out of a Bush event because of the clothing they wore. What were they terrorists? Did their shirts say, “Kill Bush.” No. They were pro-choice feminists. The mother of the family brought along a National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) sweatshirt in her hand in cases she got cold; she was forced to give it up at the door. Her daughter was wearing a shirt that said “This is what a feminist looks like.” After giving up the sweatshirt and entering the event some people from Bush’s campagin came over to where they were seated, and took their tickets and tore them up telling them that the tickes “were no longer any good.” The family was then escorted out of the event.http://www.mlive.com/news/sanews/index.ssf?/base/news-12/1091802209309820.xml

So I bought my brother “Ruminations on College Life” by Aaron Karo for high school graduation knowing that he probably wouldn’t read it. I read it last night though. It was basically just a collection of random thoughts and stories from college, most having to do with alcohol, some entertaining. Overall though, I was left wondering, why exactly was this made into a book since just about anybody who kept track of funny things that happened in college could have written it? Maybe the answer’s in the question. The rest of us didn’t keep track, so we don’t have the material so easily at hand. I think, though, if a few of us brainstormed we could definitely come up with something just as good or better. Maybe I should be sure to keep track of stuff that happens in grad school.Other thoughts on the book. Where was the drug use? I just can’t believe that this guy was in a frat and drank that much and never smoked pot? I feel cheated out of part of his experience not hearing about it. And really, there was just a little too much alcohol, and not enough about ANYTHING else. I do have to admit though, that it did make me just a little nostalgic for college, especially since I doubt a “ruminations on grad school” or “ruminations on your twenties” would have nothing more important to focus on than alcohol.

Fun quote from O.: Sounds to me like it just makes him sluttsy mcslutsalot….maybe another time when he could have worked you into his little slut’s black book. You’re not inferior, you’re just not enough of a slut.
