The nineteenth issue of The Carnival of Feminists is out today at team-blog Figure: Demystifying the Feminist Mystique.
Posted by Alisha, the introduction reads:
"Welcome to the 19th edition of the Carnival of Feminists! It has really been a pleasure to read all of the nominations and to discover some new blogs we knew nothing about.
Our theme for this Carnival is “Feminism and Career” and we definitely came across some exceedingly interesting posts on the subject. This happens to be a topic that we here at Figure: Demystifying the Feminist Mystique hold near and dear to our hearts. However, we also wanted to recognize that a career does not necessarily have to be an office job…"

Repeat: Oprah is not gay. --Not that there's anything wrong with being gay, of course!
"The truth is, if we were gay, we would tell you, because there's nothing wrong with being gay," says King.
But she's not gay. So don't go around thinking that Oprah is gay, because that would be wrong. You have it on the authority of no less than O magazine. So don't think that any more, if you did.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled entertainment news.

I suppose it's been pretty obvious that I've been slacking lately on my blogging duties. My posts of late have been less the result of a deliberate process and more of an impulsive, "Oh! I need to blog this!" after coming across something.
Here's one of those things: The Carnival of Science Fiction Feminism call for entries, whose deadline for entries is June 29th, with any posts from late May and all of June qualifying.
So if you're blogging about the edgy sexual and reproductive politics of Battlestar Galactica or sexism of Star Trek or attempted deconstruction of macho in Lost (ha!) or the blatant and pernicious sexism in the Dune prequels (making the original downright tame by comparison) or all the stupid sci fi trash coming out of Hollywood (where we don't really even need to mention the blatant sexism and even occasional misogyny running through those rotting fanboy fantasy blockbusters, now, do we, really?)...then send in a link. Also eligible:
* All Weblog Postings on Science Fiction and Fantasy works in all media (books, comic books, television, film, roleplaying tabletop games and video games) written from a Feminist Perspective are eligible.
* Fan fiction written from a Feminist Perspective is eligible.
* Posts about fan fiction written from a Feminist Perspective are eligible.
* Posts about conventions and fan gatherings of a Feminist nature are eligible.
* Posts about conventions and fan gatherings written from a Feminist Perspective are eligible.
* Posts about any science fiction or fantasy fandom written from a Feminist Perspective are eligible.
* Posts linking to newsand announcements are eligible, so long as they pertain specifically to the Feminist Sci-Fi Fantasy community.
* Considerations about science fiction/fantasy news from a Feminist Perspective are eligible.
* Analysis of non-Feminist works from a Feminist Perspective are eligible.
* Rants about any of the above written from a Feminist Perspective are eligible.
* Posts which spell “Space” using 3 A’s and two exclamation points and are written from a Feminist Perspective are eligible.
* Posts about Green-Skinned Amazons (from Outer Spaaace!) with more than two breasts that are not written from a Feminist Perspective will not be eligible (and if they aren’t damned funny,* will be reproduced for mockery).
* Posts about Getting Your Girlfriend into [specific type of fandom] had also better be damned funny. If written from a Feminist Perspective (even tongue-in-cheek), they will be eligible.
I
found this announcement via CultureCat, whose blog I confess I've not visited in months. So I'm a week late in seeing that
CultureCat is now Mrs. CultureCat -- or should I say he is now Mr. CultureCat?
Congrats to Clancy (who is keeping her name, which only makes sense since she's just finishing her Ph.D. dissertation -- not a time to become someone's rib in name)!

After several weeks -- months? -- of slogging through the molasses-speed pageloads, we're moving to new servers! This will happen very soon, thanks to kind help from a company that shall remain nameless for now. They're also going to help us upgrade to Drupal 4.7, so expect some changes here in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, if you find yourself unable to post a blog or comment on a post less than 30 days old, it's probably because we've locked the site for the migration. (We can't have people commenting on the old server -- they would just disappear!)
More soon.

Issue number 13 of The Carnival of Feminists is out now!
Terry of I See Invisible People is the host and editor of lucky number 13, and she's done a great job of rounding up some of the best of the feminist blogosphere.
Do stop by and leave a comment if you think she's produced a good issue - comments are like applause for Carnival Hosts. ;)

I'm spreading the word about the call for submissions for the next issue of The Carnival of Feminists.

I found this in the in-box this morning.
Time for Blogads' annual blog reader survey. Yes, the third annual! Now open for business. (I apologize if you've gotten several of these -- some people say they haven't gotten prior versions.)
Right now we'll survey JUST readers of politically influential blogs... your readers. I'm sending this survey link out to 200 political blogad sellers, plus a few friends. (We'll survey other blogad niches in coming weeks.)
As in past years, Blogads will pay for the survey. Even though the results will be severely unscientific, the project helps us all better understand blogs and where we all fit in the infosphere. Stuff like this also helps with evangelism -- headlines notwithstanding, too many pundits, advertisers and journalists are still blind to the political bloggers' radical force.
If you want your readers to be represented, please point them to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=84511800967....
So we can break out your blog's data later, please ask your readers to list it as the referring blog for question #23.
For that last part, please, if you would, put media girl (2 words, lowercase).
That's it, that's all. We now return you to the regularly scheduled blogging.

To everyone over the past 8 months or so who tried to contact me via the feedback link, I apologize for not responding. I've been playing musical computers and hard drives over the past year, and somewhere along the line an email account feel out of the loop. All those feedbacks ended up on the server, but they were not being pulled down ... until today.
I replied to some of you personally before just giving up and deciding on this blog post. Of course, those who took the most offense at my non-responsiveness probably aren't reading mediagirl.org any more.
Anyway ... sorry about that.

Heart, are you great enough
For a love that never tires?
O' heart, are you great enough for love?
I have heard of thorns and briers,
Over the meadow and stiles,
Over the world to the end of it
Flash for a million miles.
We have winners!
However, the announcement must wait while I pull together the nifty linky buttons for the winners.
(we're so sorry uncle albert
but we haven't done a bloody thing all day
we're so sorry uncle albert
but the kettle's on the boil
and we're so easily called away)
