I think all those faux rays have done some serious damage over the years.

The Daily Newspaper Death Spiral Didn’t Start With the Clenis

Nor should it be blamed entirely on the intertubes; user-generated media and increased competition just exacerbated it. But Gary Webb's Mercury News series, "Dark Alliance" --and especially the reaction it drew from a threatened New York Times, Washington Post and LA Times-- should be forever burned as a seminal moment on that timeline. So, I'm glad Universal is making a movie about it.

Bill Kristol Should Rent Pee Wee’s Playhouse

Having controlled the executive branch for 28 of the last 40 years, Republicans tend to think of themselves as the governing party — with some of the arrogance and narrowness that implies, but also with a sense of real-world responsibility. Many Democrats, on the other hand, no long even try to imagine what action and responsibility are like. They do, however, enjoy the support of many refined people who snigger at the sometimes inept and ungraceful ways of the Republicans. (And, if I may say so, the quality of thought of the Democrats’ academic and media supporters — a permanent and, as it were, pensioned opposition — seems to me to have deteriorated as Orwell would have predicted.)

Shorter Kristol: I know you are, but what am I?

Tweety About to Meet the Puddy Tats

If you're in DC tomorrow (Thursday), please join the National Women's Political Caucus in protesting Chris Matthews' well-documented sexist commentary on NBC/MSNBC. The rally will begin at 4 p.m. outside NBC Studios (4001 Nebraska Avenue N.W. Washington, DC 20016).

As you can see, I've been busy working on my sign:

If you can't make the rally, a letter to MSNBC's management might help teach our little canary to sing a different tune.

Kristol Spreads His Suckatude in the New York Times

At the end of a bet-hedging yawner of an inaugural column in the New York Times, Bill Kristol dumps a ginormous, disingenuous whopper:

Some Democrats are licking their chops at the prospect of a Huckabee nomination. They shouldn’t be. For one thing, Michael Bloomberg would be tempted to run in the event of an Obama-Huckabee race — and he would most likely take votes primarily from Obama.

Uh, yeah. Maybe that would be plausible to someone who views the world through the neocon paradigm where wishing hard enough for things that defy basic logic makes them come true. But, the reality, like everything else this wingnut welfare queen proclaims, is the exact opposite.

Prior Incarnation

For months now, I've been waiting to get a call from the DOD inspector general regarding this.

Holy WTF ????

‘Showtime’ at the Bland Diego Zoo

Man, oh man. This fluffy, just-in-time-for-Christmas LA Times featurette makes me want to take up the jazz flute.

‘May the Best Movement Win’

I think that's the funniest line I read regarding Newsweek's announced Rove-Kos pairing. The choice of putting them on equal footing, so to speak, says something. Although, I'm not sure what exactly.
